I'm the third generation of a jewellery family. I grew up behind the counter — weighing, tagging, testing old gold, standing there at eight in the evening on Deepavali when the queue is out the door and the billing cannot be the thing that slows the shop down.

I've spent 25 years in the trade and the last 12 of them building software for it. Auromine Retail POS Pvt Ltd has been building point-of-sale software in Chennai since 2009 — first for our own counters, then for other shops that kept asking for it.

The product is opinionated because the counter is opinionated. Billing has to work when the internet doesn't. A rate change has to take three seconds. The free plan exists because a small shop should not have to pay to find out whether software fits — Pearl is free forever, and it stays free.
